Abhyangam is a form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves massage of the body with large amount of warm oil. Shirodhara is a form of Ayurveda therapy that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead. The name appears from the Sanskrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow). The liquids used in shirodhara based on what is being treated but can include, milk, oil, coconut water, buttermilk, , or even plain water.
Shirodhara has been used to treat a selection of conditions including sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, greying of hair, eye diseases, neurological disorders, memory loss, insomnia, hearing impairment, tinnitus, vertigo and certain types of skin diseases like psoriasis. And it nourishes the skin, aids in removing impurities, stimulates both arterial and lymphatic circulation and relaxes the mind and body, promoting overall healing. Abhyangam enhances the ability of nutrients to reach starved cells and also removes inactive waste.
